Founded by Provigo in Quebec in the 1980s, the Proprio depanneur banner is now operated by Loblaw.
As its name implies, the banner brings together convenience stores operated by independents owners (“proprio” is a contraction of “propriétaire” which means “property owner”). The banner gives them access to discounts and wholesale prices from the Loblaw warehouses. In addition, more than 60% of Proprio convenience stores are located in three adjoining regions: Montérégie, Laval and the Laurentian.
Type of Franchise
Affiliation to a Proprio banner is based primarily on a supply agreement that allows access to wholesale prices, rebates and other. Marketing support is virtually non-existent (no flyer, website, promotion, advertising or any visible investment in brand equity). About one-fifth of Proprio convenience stores also sell gasoline, mostly Sonic and Esso.
