EXCLUSIVE: Here Is The Top 100 Most Liked Groceries & Supermarkets In Québec!

After having successfully launched, three weeks ago, the first Top 100 Most Liked Depanneurs in Québec, DepQuébec is very proud to introduce now the first Top 100 Most Liked GROCERIES & SUPERMARKETS In Quebec.

This unique ranking is based on the only irrefutable data available, i.e. the number of “likes” that appear on the facebook page of groceries and supermarkets that are having one.

DepQuébec visited the vast majority of them and prepared the following ranking.

From the outset, we set ourselves some rules.

• We have focused only on grocery stores and supermarkets that offer a fairly wide assortment of products, with or without specialties;

• We excluded specialized stores (butchers, pastry shops, beer & wine boutiques, fruit & vegetable stores, healthy food or zero waste groceries, fine and specialized grocery stores);

• However, those among them that are offering a fairly varied assortment of products (meat, fruit and vegetables, groceries) have been included. For instance, a butcher that only or mostly sells meat is not included, while another one that also sells groceries, specialized beer and fruits and vegetables has been included.

All this, of course, to the best of our knowledge, in good faith and with the limited means at our disposal. So, be indulgent, but let us know of any errors or omissions so that we can continue to improve the ranking!

Our goal is noble: to pay tribute to all those owners and their team who invest time and energy in their clientele conversation by working hard on their facebook page and who sometimes wonder why to go through so much work.

And while it is not uncommon for a fine butcher, a renowned pastry shop or other to get tens of thousands of “likes”, it is much harder for a regular grocery store or supermarket that is offering the basic but much needed categories.

Several nevertheless managed to stand out with a ton of determination and creativity, and we are proud to pay them a tribute today.

Sobeys / IGA overwhelming dominance

The food chain that really stands out from this ranking is Sobeys Quebec. We knew that Sobey’s, in particular, is counting a lot on the strenght of its independent owners to achieve long-term success. But here, we can really see the huge difference this business strategy is making.

Indeed, 38 of the top 100 positions on the ranking are occupied by IGA independent retailers, including 5 positions in the Top 10 plus the very Top, 1st position!

This is an overwhelming dominance knowing that Metro has only 10 retailers among the 100 most liked and Loblaw, only 6.

This indicates that Sobey’s can rely on a quite dynamic network of store owners, highly creative, active and very close to their customers.

The best example of this enthusiasm is probably IGA DesRosiers (8th position), whose amusing and entertaining viral videos featuring its owner caused a sensation on the web and boosted to more than 9,000 the number of “likes” of its facebook page of the trade (see article here).

So to everyone featured on the ranking, CONGRATULATIONS and BE PROUD!
