Big mistake!<\/p>\n<p>It is indeed a very big and strong industry. See for yourself.<\/p>\n<h5>1) Number of stores<\/h5>\n<p>There are currently<strong> 27,000 convenience stores<\/strong> in Canada. This represents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>19.5 times the number of McDonald&#8217;s restaurants in Canada (1,400);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>4.5 times the number of post offices in the country (6,200);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>1.5 times the number of churches in the country (19,000).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>2) Sales figures<\/h5>\n<p>Convenience stores are estimated to generate <strong>$ 56 billion in sales per year<\/strong>. This represents:<\/p>\n<p>The equivalent of all combined retail sales in five Canadian provinces (food, beverages, clothing, furniture, everything everything):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Newfoundland and Labrador ($ 8.9 billion);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Prince Edward Island ($ 2.2 billion);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Nova Scotia ($ 14.7 billion);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>New Brunswick ($ 11.9 billion);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Manitoba ($ 19.1 billion).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/tables-tableaux\/sum-som\/l01\/cst01\/trad17a-eng.htm\">Statistics Canada<\/a><\/p>\n<h5>3) Job Creation<\/h5>\n<p>Convenience stores are estimated to support<strong> 234,000 jobs in Canada<\/strong>.
