The internationnally known\u00a0Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>fuel\u00a0brand is owned in Canada by Calgary-based\u00a0Shell Canada<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(also known as Royal Dutch \/ Shell) is an Anglo-Dutch oil company, one of the largest multinational corporations in the world. In reality<\/span>, this is a group of companies that are owned directly or indirectly by the parent company Royal Dutch Petroleum<\/strong><\/em>, so that the term “Shell Group<\/strong>” is commonly used\u00a0in English to refer to the entire <\/span>business.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>name and the logo are closely related to the origins of the Shell Transport and Trading Company, founded in London in 1833 by the father of Marcus Samuel, originally an import-export company named\u00a0<\/span>M. Samuel & Co. At its very beginning, it used to import antiquities, ornaments, including oriental shells destined to make small decorative boxes, fashionable in the Victorian era, hence today’s “shell” logo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nowadays,\u00a0Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>offers\u00a0a premium gasoline brand called V-Power NiTRO +<\/strong> which, according to the company, “represents more than 100 years of commitment to the production of high quality fuels.” <\/span>To meet the ever-changing needs of drivers and their vehicles, Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>scientists conducted innovative laboratory tests that demonstrated that the Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>V-Power NiTRO +<\/strong> Super Fuel additive set instantly p<\/span>rotective barrier against fouling, wear and corrosion.<\/span><\/p>\n

The brand is part of the Air Miles<\/strong><\/a> loyalty program, sells Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>gift cards and offers a Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>MasterCard credit card offered by BMO<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been among the big oil companies to depart from retail distribution. Accordingly, the corporate\u00a0Shell Select<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>gas stations network was sold to Sobeys<\/strong> <\/a>in 2011. With respect to fuel franchises, Shell<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>relies on Sobeys<\/strong> <\/a>as well as a “brand wholesaler” and o<\/span>ther groups for specific territories such as Groupe\u00a0Filgo-Sonic <\/strong><\/a>for the Beauce and Chaudi\u00e8re-Appalaches regions.<\/span><\/p>\n
