Decided in 2015 and completed in 2016, the union of the two chains promises to boost the growth of the group.

The Groupe Filgo-Sonic is the result of a very recent merger (2016) of Coop Fédérée‘s Énergie Sonic and Filgo, a distributor of heating oil from the Beauce region, founded in 1956 under the initial name of Philippe Gosselin & Ass.. In 1983, Filgo decided to diversify from the heating oil business by acquiring gas stations and in 1999, launched the Super Soir banner.

Filgo invested until recently in the opening of new Super Soir convenience stores like this one in Granby, in 2015.

Founded in 1922, Coop Fédérée is the largest agri-food company in Quebec and the 24th largest agri-food cooperative in the world. It represents more than 90,000 members in 72 cooperatives in several Canadian provinces. Its Énergie Sonic division is responsible for the operation of the Sonic brand and the Sonichoix banner of convenience stores.

The combining forces of the two companies specialized in the distribution of energy products and the scale of their footprint in the region are key assets that the Groupe Filgo-Sonic can count on to support its growth. The Group, which already distributes 1.6 billion liters of fuel per year, operates or supplies 300 service stations, has 775 employees, 24 business offices and 166 distributors and delivery agents. Its annual revenue is about $ 1.5 billion.
