Marché Extra! is one of Metro‘s three convenience store banners.

According to Metro, this concept of independent and flexible convenience stores corresponds to the retailer’s operating needs. Most stores offer bakery, delicatessen items, pastries, prepared meals, fruit and vegetables and frozen products.

Affiliated independent owners are supplied by Distagro’s Metro warehouse in St-Jean-Port-Joli, which is still owned by Metro (the other, the Distagro warehouse in Boucherville, was sold by Metro in 2012 to the American company Sysco – source : Radio-Canada).

Metro says there are 104 Marché Extra! in Quebec. However, only 96 are displayed as such, according to our estimates. As with its other banners (GEM and Marché Ami), the banner display does not appear to be an obligation to adhere to it, although here, unlike GEM, Metro makes commendable marketing efforts. Marché Extra! has indeed its own website and weekly flyer, which are a carbon copy of Marché Ami‘s material: same marketing is used for both banners.
